Ingredient Library

Salicylic acid is a Beta Hydroxy acid (BHA) that works by exfoliating the skin. This ingredient has a desmolytic effect, which means it can exfoliate by dissolving the bonds that hold dead skin cells to the surface of the skin. This ingredient is also oil soluble which means it can penetrate the pore and exfoliate all the dead skin cells from inside the pore. This is a great ingredient to use to help prevent blackheads, whiteheads, and new acne breakouts from forming, it is a go-to for oily/acne-prone skin.

As a result of the exfoliating effect of salicylic acid, it offers many other great benefits such as evening out and brightening skin tone and complexion, improving signs of aging, and helping to give you smooth soft skin.

Salicylic acid is safe for all skin tones.

Glycolic acid is an Alpha Hydroxy acid (AHA) that works to exfoliate the skin, it is the most researched AHA backing its effectiveness. There are many different AHAs, and out of all of them, glycolic acid has the lowest molecule structure allowing it to penetrate the skin more easily.

The ingredient works to shed dead skin cells to renew the surface of the skin. Glycolic acid is effective in helping to even out and brighten skin tone and complexion, improve signs of aging, improve sun-damaged skin, improve texture for smoother skin, and assist with acne breakouts.

Research also shows that glycolic acid can increase skin hydration levels.

This ingredient can make your skin more sensitive to the sun, so when using an AHA in your routine like glycolic acid, it is advised to use sunscreen daily.

Lactic acid is an Alpha Hydroxy acid (AHA) that works to exfoliate the skin by helping to shed dead skin cells from the surface of the skin.

Lactic acid has many benefits aside from exfoliating which include, helping to hydrate the skin, positively influencing the skin’s microbiome, strengthening the skin barrier by increasing ceramide production in the skin, and suppleness by helping the skin to retain water and according to research it can help the skin’s defence system to stay strong as it will positively interact with a neuropeptide on the surface of the skin known as Substance P which will help diffuse signs of stress that affect the skin.

This ingredient helps to brighten and even out skin tone and complexion, improve signs of aging, improve sun-damaged skin, and improve texture for smoother skin.

This ingredient can make your skin more sensitive to the sun, so when using an AHA in your routine like lactic acid, it is advised to use sunscreen daily.

Poly Hydroxy acids (PHAs) are exfoliating acids. The most common poly hydroxy acid is gluconolactone, which is formulated in our PHA brightening serum. PHAs are a type of exfoliating acids that are less sensitizing to the skin, hence it is more suitable and recommended for people with sensitive skin who cannot tolerate alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) or a beta hydroxy acid (BHA).

PHAs have larger molecule structures which is the reason for the ingredients being less sensitizing however they will not penetrate the skin as extensively as an AHA like glycolic acid will. However, research has shown that the reduced absorption into the skin does not lessen the exfoliating effect of a PHA.

Niacinamide, also known as vitamin B3, is a powerhouse ingredient in skincare.
This ingredient has so many benefits, it can help to even out and brighten skin tone and complexion, improve dull skin, reduce enlarged pores, stimulate collagen production which leads to amazing anti-aging benefits, moisturize the skin, control excess oil production to help with acne, skin soothing benefits, provides antioxidant benefits and strengthens the skin barrier.

This ingredient is known based on research to repair skin damage from UV light whilst also defending the skin against negative sources of environmental attacks.

This is a great ingredient for all skin types that can be used to help address many different skin concerns.

There are different forms of Vitamin C, the form formulated in our Vitamin C serum is Ascorbic acid, which is the most researched and purest form of vitamin C, which is also the most naturally occurring antioxidant in our skin.

This ingredient has many benefits particularly related to aging. This ingredient can help to brighten skin tone and complexion, improve dull skin, increase collagen production for anti-aging benefits, improve wrinkles, and act as an antioxidant.

Ascorbic acid is, however, sensitive to light and air exposure. As a result, any product containing this ingredient must be stored in a cool and dry place out of direct sunlight. If not, then the effectiveness of the product will decrease.

Retinol, also known as vitamin A derivatives in skincare.

Retinol is a powerhouse ingredient. It is a favourite and popular ingredient for aging that should be at the forefront of every anti-aging routine. This ingredient was, however, first tested as a treatment for acne and in the testing process they found out it had amazing anti-aging benefits, yet as you might guess, this ingredient is one of the most effective ingredients for acne as well. Retinol is a dermatologist favourite.

Retinol helps to combat anti-aging concerns by increasing collagen production and increasing skin cell turnover, as a result, this will help to improve fine lines and wrinkles, decrease enlarged pores, improve dull skin, and brighten and even out skin tone and complexion. Retinol, according to research has been shown to essentially jump-start the skin’s production of hyaluronic acid which can help the skin become more plumber and hydrated.

Retinol helps to fight acne by increasing skin cell turnover which will help to unclog pores, it also helps to decrease oil production which can help with breakouts and based on research it creates an environment that is hostile to acne-causing bacteria which eliminates 3 of the 4 causes of acne.

And naturally, retinol will improve skin texture to help you achieve smooth skin.

We have formulated our Skin renewing retinol serum with a form of retinol called retinol palamatate otherwise known as retinyl palmitate. This is a gentler form of retinol that can mask some of the effects of a “retinol purge”, which essentially means that it can help to mask some of the side effects that could be accompanied by retinol usages such as potential dryness, flakiness, irritation, and redness. This form of retinol is a combination of retinol, fatty acids, and palmitic acid.

Fatty acids include great skin-benefiting compounds such as glycerides, sterols, and phospholipids which provide great moisturizing and antioxidant benefits according to research. Palmitic acid is a type of fatty acid that acts as an emollient which has a softening and soothing effect on the skin.

Hyaluronic acid is a humectant, best known for its moisturizing properties. This ingredient is capable of holding up to 1000 times its weight in water, making it an optimal hydrator for all skin types.

Hyaluronic acid has many benefits, including helping to moisturize the skin, hydrate the skin, improve dehydration in the skin, increase skin moisture content, improve the strength of the skin barrier, soothe the skin, and defend against trans-epidermal water loss from the skin. It also helps with anti-aging concerns as research shows that the ingredient can help to improve the skin’s ability to stay hydrated and decrease fine lines and wrinkles.

Hyaluronic acid has grown to be a very popular ingredient in the skincare community and is an ingredient that should be included in any routine.

Once again, as with many other ingredients, there are different forms. The form of hyaluronic acid we use for our products is sodium hyaluronate. Sodium hyaluronate is the salt form of hyaluronic acid and is more readily absorbed into the skin. It also can hold up to 6 litres of water in one gram and particularly helps the skin to maintain the water balance leading to a healthy appearance of the skin.

Sodium hyaluronate is also a postbiotic, meaning it helps to nourish and maintain the skin’s microbiome.

Dimethicone is an emollient ingredient, meaning it has skin-softening properties.

The ingredient is also known as a “skin protectant”, it forms an air-permeable barrier that helps to prevent water and moisture loss on the skin to allow the skin to retain and maintain optimal hydration levels. This ingredient is found in our Daily moisturizer.
