Diet and skincare

There is a link between diet and skin care, particularly concerning issues such as acne and aging, but too many people focus too much on diet and over-emphasize diet for “good” skin. So, it is important to make sure that you have a great skincare routine first and foremost along with eating well for your skin’s benefit.

Foods that are beneficial for aging skin:

Antioxidants are incredibly good for your skin when applied topically, yet food sources of antioxidants are incredibly healthy not just for your skin but also in general for your health and are super beneficial to fighting off signs of aging. Antioxidants work to fight off and defend against environmental damage to your skin.

Some great sources that we would recommend incorporating into your diet are any vitamins, particularly vitamins C and E. Foods such as citrus fruits, berries, carrots, and leafy greens are some of the best antioxidant-rich foods to incorporate into your diet.

Omega fatty acids are also a brilliant source of nutrients to add to your diet for aging skin, omega-3, omega-6, and omega-9 can help strengthen the skin by serving as building blocks for the skin’s surface layers, contributing to healthier and stronger skin.

These nutrients can be found in fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel, seabass, and tuna and obviously in supplements that have become very popular today.

What to drink? Water and green tea are your best friends here, water can help to increase skin hydration levels and green tea is packed with antioxidants and works as an anti-inflammatory as well.

Foods to avoid:

Sugar, sugar is one of the worst things for your skin concerning aging. Sugar breaks down and destroys your collagen and increases inflammation which will in effect, age you.

We are not saying that you must completely avoid sugar, but excessive consumption of sugar will lead to negative effects on your skin when it comes to aging, not to mention the other health aspects of too much sugar.

Alcohol. Alcohol can destroy collagen, it causes the skin to become dehydrated, and increase inflammation all of which lead to many aging concerns and unfortunately can set back your amazing anti-aging routine.

Again, excessive alcohol over a long period is what will cause significant damage, but everyday consumption of even two drinks a day can cause negative effects on the skin concerning aging.

When it comes to diet, it is more in our opinion what you avoid than what you consume, so be sure you are taking care of your skin in all ways possible.

And ensuring that you eat healthy nutrient-rich foods packed with antioxidants will help your skin to be healthier and less inflammatory prone which can help to decrease the risk of acne breakouts as well.
